Artist's Comments

Sister picture to: [link]

I think this one got away from me, and due to recent occurrences, i just wasn't in the mood to finish it. It will probably be re-done, or at least re-tooled when i get a crappy grade on it in class.

I need to re-think my art in general, i'm just not happy with it. And after not selling a thing in two conferences, not getting into the society of illustrators magazine, it seems my stuff is too fantasy, kitch-y based. My teachers don't care for it, because it has no people in it, stuff like that. Need to get my crap together more, actually use references, i guess, i don't know. I'm just not in good spirits about anything.

It's a really great picture in my opinion, but I think it's sad that your teachers can't appreciate the fantasy art as much as people. But that's my own biased opinion because I think people are boring XD

And about recent happenings, I may be able to guess one, and it really sucked it happened without counsel between the two of you :< It was unfair for that to happen without at least some of your input :/

I love what you do, and even if you do end up doing more people don't let your fantasies slip away from you! I think you are very creative and have a lot going for you. I hope things get better.

Confusing, but satisfactory, to say the least.

Whats wrong with this I don't see how it could get a bad grade. If there needs to be a person in it, then it should be you its your world, like riding on the bird or something.

It has good composition and lighting. Nice detail too.

I notice with illustration, you have to have a lot of illustrations with people doing realistic thing and then you can have a few animal, fantasy, and sci-fi illustrations to put in your portfolio. It is best to be able to do a range of different themes.

But if you ever go to any fantasy or sci-fi cons, your stuff will sell easily.

Hey, chin up there bucko--you've improved TONS since I first saw your stuff on here! I think maybe something that would help would be to just study all sorts of anatomy, because that really will turn into your box o' blocks, if you get me. I need to do this too--looking at the art work of some of the industry greats is reeeally depressing, but I know they put hours and hours of study time in so that those bits and pieces become second nature, and extrapolating from real life into something made up becomes easy. Don't lose heart, and don't give in to what your teachers want--there's a reason they're teaching and not raking in the cash, right? And based on that one journal you wrote a little while back, some of them wouldn't know what they were talking about anyway.

Bah, that one was crazy, and to this day, continues to be crazy. We had to watch this sex-porno-art video...thing called Fuses on monday and... *shudders* Soooo much penis. Anyways, my teachers are actually pretty good: [link] and ..well, my other teacher's portfolio is obscured by some woman who put her name on everything from Monster to facebook looking for an accounting job- but she's good too.

Nah, what I mean is more like what i'm coming from. I've been in a fog since my folks got divorced, which was october, and it's time for me to re-think how I work, and try something more central, with more of a theme to it, with substance. This picture is a lot of hazy background with two interesting interactions, bird and fish, and sky and hole. Besides that, it doesn't feel like anything else; it feels like I do, hazy and unspecified. I'm still gonna pander to my crowd here, but it needs more dedication- more work and more thought. I was actually thinking of drifting to something a little more obsure, a little abstract, but still down to earth. It's just depressing to get the same treatment I did when I was in junior high-- there's ONE person better then you, and they suck up the entirety of the teachers time. (Damn you overtalented asian kid!-i can't think of his name)

I know i've improved, and unfortuneatly, the only thing that seems to make me do so is my own self-loathing.
